A Mother's Battle for Her Children's Safety in a Twisted Game

Mom (me) and 3 kids (middle school age) and ex. One kid asked to stay home from school. Came back in after the other 2 left for school. Told the littlest to wait until they leave and then can stay home. Told ex that every kid stays home from school sometimes, so it's fine. Can't remember more, but transition. But next thing I remember is being at a bar, very smoky, with older kid (or friend). Have to compete in a game for money (squid game style, almost). Can't remember much, but I remember a guy going into another room and being dead. All 3 kids are here for some reason. Told ex I just want the kids safe. Some argument happens (remember political views and differences, disgusted at his response) in another room as this happens, and I say I just want my kids safe. Something happens, and ex is dead, but I have his skull and carry it like a T-shirt. Now the older kid, who is a teenager, takes the skull and steps on it (see it from her perspective).
